Victorious is a starting point for a new strand of work – one that takes Portsmouth’s monuments, myths and skyline and reimagines them through the lens of spectacle, subversion and popular culture. From Nelson, Charles Dickens, the Spinnaker Tower, and an old mannequin salvaged from the Debenhams in Southsea before it closed, these icons of the city are re-cast as part of a living stage set, a festival of images that refuses to stay static. This post will collect works and documentation as the series unfolds – beginning with a poster that frames the Spinnaker as a 1950s sci-fi apparition, looming and alive above the city – It’s Alive!
The Triptych was installed at A4 size in a number of locations in and around Southsea. I would expect them to not last more than 3 to 4 days.
